01.06.2025 11:33:39 | The 32nd edition of the UniCredit Czech Open tournament, to be played in Prostějov until 7 June, promises to be a great spectacle. The top seed is local player Jakub Menšík, ranked 19th in the ATP rankings. A total of five players from the world’s top 100 will be competing.
"Considering that our tournament is being played in the second week of Roland Garros, the line-up is excellent. The matches will feature great clay court specialists and practically all the top domestic players whose current situation allows them to participate. We really have something to look forward to," said Petra Černošková, director of the UniCredit Czech Open.
Fans can look forward to seeing members of our club compete. Beside Jakub Menšík, we will see Vít Kopřiva, Dalibor Svrčina, and Maxim Mrva, thanks to a wild card. Hopefully they will stay in the tournament as long as possible,“ says Petra Černošková.
Three Czech players made it to the line-up. Beside Menšík, Kopřiva will be the third seed, and Svrčina will defend his seventh position. It is of foremost importance for the tournament organizers that domestic players participate. "I spoke to our guys, and they all said they wanted to play here, if possible. And here they are. I am especially happy that Jakub Menšík will be playing. He has had a tough time lately with a lot of matches, but without hesitation he promised to play before our fans. He is a great patriot and has proven it once again," said Miroslav Černošek, head of the organising agency TK Plus.
A big contender for the title will be Chilean clay court player Alejandro Tabilo, currently ranked 61st in the world, who was among the world’s top 20 last year. He also advanced to the semi-finals of the Masters in Rome, where he defeated Novak Djokovic. He played for the world team at last year’s Laver Cup. "He's a great player, I'm looking forward to seeing him play," said Černošková.
The main part of the tournament will start on 2 June. In addition to the qualifying finals, the first matches of the opening round will be played. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Saturday, 7 June. The final day of play will also feature the traditional exhibition match between tennis legend Radek Štěpánek and Maxim Mrva, one of the world’s top junior players. He is already gaining experience in men’s tournaments and has experienced a successful debut in the Davis Cup. "It's going to be fun. I'm looking forward to seeing Maxim's game up close. I've been getting ready for two months. I hope the director doesn't have any free cards left and doesn't call me to come a week earlier," says Radek Štěpánek, three-time winner of the Prostějov Challenger, with a smile.
