Doubles final: Jebavý and Martin Fail to Take the Last Step

03.06.2022 17:50:52 | Roman Jebavý and Andrej Martin failed to win the doubles final of the UniCredit Czech Open in Prostějov: the Czech-Slovak pair lost to the Indian pair Bhambri, Myneni 3:6, 5:7. What was the pairs’ journey to the finals? Second seeded Roman Jebavý and Slovak Martin defeated Argentine-Peruvian pair Diaz Acosta, Merino 6:4, 6:1, Paulson and Svrčina 6:1, 7:5 in the second round and Indy Balaji, Kahde 6:7(3), 7:5, 10:7 in the semifinals.

Their final match opponents Bhambri, Nynei defeated the Swiss-Ukrainian pair Margaroli, Sachko 7:5, 6:3, then the Ukrainian-Croatian pair Molchanov, Skugor 7:6(4), 3:6, 13:11 and the top-seeded Austrians Erler and Miedler 6:4, 6:4 in the semifinals.
The second seeded pair Jebavý, Martin lagged behind at the beginning of the match and were quickly losing 0:3. In the fourth game they saved two break points in a row and only had a single opportunity on the return, which they did not use. The second set was tighter, but Jebavý and Martin lost their serve at 5:5 with a straight game. They failed  to rebreak their opponents in the next game and the more precise Indians won. "They played great, served well and didn't give us many chances. Moreover, we didn't play a good match today," said Roman Jebavý after the final. "They broke us very early and we couldn't respond. They quickly won the first set. In the second set, they went for the win more than we did." If someone had told Jebavý they would be in the final? "I would definitely take that.  But when you reach the final and you feel you have a chance to win, it’s  always bad when you lose."
The awards were presented by Jiří Kunert, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of UniCredit Bank Czech and Slovak Republic, Oldřich Dostál, Marketing Director of NOTINO and Petra Černošková, Tournament Director of UniCredit Czech Open.
