He claimed a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Alex Molčan in the final to become the fifth Argentinian champion in the tournament's history. The title earned him 100 ATP ranking points, moving him up to world No. 53.
"I felt great in Prostėjov right from the start. The center court suited my game perfectly, and that showed in the final. I managed to make the most of my current form, and I value this title immensely. I hope to build on this momentum in the coming weeks and months," Báez said.
The opening set was decided by a single break in the fourth game. In the second, Báez quickly raced to a 4-1 lead, and despite dropping his serve once, he comfortably closed out the match. For Molčan, this second final appearance ended in another runner-up finish.
"The final just didn't go my way. I made too many unforced errors, and my opponent punished them. He proved what a great player he is and showed his quality throughout the entire week. It's a pity I couldn't get the win today, but reaching the final is still a great achievement. Maybe I'll go one step further next year," Molčan stated.
