Last year, Vít Kopřiva reached his first final at the UniCredit Czech Open in Prostějov in which he defeated his club mate Dalibor Svrčina. Prostějov had once again a Czech champion after long five years! On Tuesday, the twenty-five-year-old TK AGROFERT player set out on his journey to defend his title, but he lost to the qualifier Maty Valkusz of Hungary in the first round and notched his fourth loss in a row. He will drop 60 places in the rankings, down to the third hundred, to the 222nd place.

The top seeded Jiří Lehečka entered the UniCredit Czech Open in Prostějov with a 6:3, 6:4 win over Nick Hardt of the Dominican Republic. His opponent is ranked 222nd in the ATP. Jakub Menšík faced Nicholas David Ionel in two tournaments in a row. While he needed over three hours to advance in Tunis, he easily defeated the Romanian in two sets 6:2, 6:3 at the UniCredit Czech Open. The champion of the recent Challenger in Prague will either meet Facundo Bagnis or Michael Geerts in the battle for quarterfinals. The wild-card holder Jakub Menšík had a great start to the tournament.

The PROSTĚJOV Arena will host a literally star-studded programme of UniCredit Czech Open today, starting at 10 a.m. Last night it rained in Prostějov, the retractable roof had to be used for the first time on Monday. The crowd saw Dalibor Svrčina, the home team’s player and last year's finalist, advance to the 1/8 round. Tuesday's programme will be opened by 17-year-old Jakub Mensik who recently won his first challenger at Sparta in Prague. He is ranked 240th in the ATP and received a wild card to play in Prostejov.

The opening match in the main draw of the UniCredit Czech Open saw the 20-year-old Czech Dalibor Svrcina (232nd ATP) vs. Italian Luciano Darderi (173rd ATP). Svrcina had the upper hand from the first rallies. Moreover, he was defending last year's final appearance and a loss would have sent him into the second half of the ATP top three hundred. Svrčina was leading 3:0, but then he made some unnecessary mistakes and the score levelled at 3:3.
