Václav Šafránek Loses to Melzer
06.06.2018 12:33:59 | Czech tennis had four chances to advance to the quarter-finals on Wednesday. However, the first one disappeared very quickly. The match between Václav Šafránek and Geraldem Melzer took only a bit over an hour and Šafránek’s dream of advancing to the quarter final came to nothing a bit too quickly. Gerald Meltzer of Austria has beaten Cecchinato of Italy, a semi-finalist at Roland Garros, this year. The Austrian was very active. He did not make many errors and pushed the Czech player into defensive positions. That was also why Šafránek only won a single game in the match.

Czech Wednesday on the Centre Court?
06.06.2018 10:49:38 | Will the Czech players repeat their success from Tuesday on the Centre Court? Three domestic players celebrated their advancement to the third round of MONETA Czech Open on the second day of the tournament. Václav Šafránek fought on the Centre Court for almost two and a half hours. He rewarded the organisers for the main event wildcard by defeating the third seeded Roberto Carballes Baena.

Defending Champion Advances with Ease
05.06.2018 18:44:58 | The third match on the Centre Court saw the defending champion Jiří Veselý against the qualifier Gianluca Mager of Italy. The Czech player clearly fulfilled his role of the favourite in an easy match. He won the first set after a single break and maintained the lead over the qualification winner by his aggressive game. “I expected the opponent to give me a harder time. I didn’t have to play any world-class tennis. However, any victory counts in my situation. I need such matches in order to return to the top,“ said Veselý after the match.

Kukushkin Retires
05.06.2018 18:15:45 | Michail Kukushkin will not appear in the second-round match against Laszlo Djere (Serbia). He retired from the MONETA Czech Open tournament due to his hip injury. Laszlo Djere is through to the quarterfinal without a battle.

Pavlásek Advances after Winning Two Tie-Breaks
05.06.2018 16:12:30 | The match of Pablo Cuevas and the domestic player Adam Pavlásek was the hit of the first round. The Uruguayan, who had advanced to the fourth round in Indian Wells and Madrid this year, was the favourite. However, the Czech player showed a great improvement over the recent weeks and has been ridding the winning wave. Having won the Challenger in Rome and advanced from the qualification to the second round in Paris, he jumped by more than a hundred positions in a three weeks’ time.
