MONETA Czech Open: Three Out of Seven

02.06.2019 18:49:48 | Eight Czechs appeared in the Prostejov Challenger MONETA Czech Open on the first day. However, only three of them advanced to next rounds. Roman Jebavý and Pavel Nejedlý succeeded in the qualification: Jebavý defeated the promising junior Ondřej Válek who is only fifteen years old and who is a member of HTK Třebíč. He was awarded a wild card by the organizers and gained his first experience from a large tournament. Later on, Kopřiva ousted Pospíšil.

David Poljak also lost in the first round in which he was defeated by the twenty-one-year-old Slovak Alex Molčan who has recently played the quarter final in the Budapest challenger. Poljak has played two quarter finals at the Futures tournament and the second round of the Prosperity Open this year. Adam Pavlásek’s first-round defeat to Karim-Mohamed Maamoun, who is only playing in Prostejov thanks to his ITF ranking, was a shocking surprise and a great pity. The Czech was a big favorite in the match. After a good start he lost the first set, made it to tiebreak in the second set in which he literally collapsed and lost it 0:7. The sixteen-year old Daniel Siniakov was another player to be awarded a wild card at the MONETA Czech Open tournament. The primary goal for him was to gain new experience. However, he lost to the seventy-year old Khunn Wanga of France who has, since the beginning of this year, played in the round of sixteen in Cambera and was similarly successful at the tournament in Jerusalem a week ago. What is the Czech balance after the first day of the MONETA Czech Open tournament? Only three players out of eight have advanced.
