MONETA Czech Open: Slovak Molcan to Play for the Title in Prostėjov

18.06.2021 15:30:50 | The semi-final match at Moneta Czech Open in Prostėjov saw Alex Molcan (ATP 180) overplay strong Gianluca Mager (ATP 82) who was considered a big favorite for the title by many. Let alone Molcan was right under the top seeded Andujar of Spain in the draw.

The latter proved he was in excellent form in Geneva where he beat Federer and then at Roland Garros where he knocked out the world No. 4 Thiem. However, Andujar surprisingly lost to unknown Japanese Watanuki, which opened the way for Slovak Molčan.
The Slovak player had a great start in the semi-final and even though the Italian kept improving during the match he also controlled the second set. “I may have ruined the match for him a little. He could see I was quite fit and could follow up the balls. I felt fine throughout the match and knew I had it under control,“ said Molcan who has been very successful in recent weeks. This is another title he will battle for after his appearance in the final at the ATP tournament in Belgrade. “I’m enjoying it. I’m being rewarded for the hard work. I’ll go the final knowing that I can win. I know my opponent and will try to come with a strategy that will work against him,“ said Molcan after his successful semi-final match.
