UniCredit Czech Open: Qualification Sees Six Czechs, only Paulson Advances

30.05.2022 09:31:17 | Opening qualification matches at the biggest Czech tournament UniCredit Czech Open played on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the National Tennis Centre Moravia featured six Czech players. Adam Jurajda received a wild card for the qualification, but 27-year-old Lebanese Benjamin Hassan took advantage of his experience in the end of the set and beat him 7:5, 7:5.

Jurajda was still leading 5:2 in the first set; however, the remaining five games of the opening set went to the Lebanese. In the second set, Jurajda saved his serve twice, but Hassan then broke him at 5:6. In the Czech duel, Andrew Paulson, who had recently won the under-25 tournament in Most, defeated David Poljak in three sets 3:6, 6:3, 6:3, even though Poljak had a better start in the match, won the first set and was leading 2:0 in the second set...At that point, nobody would have thought that Paulson was to be the only Czech to advance in the qualification. Both Pavel Nejedlý and Daniel Siniakov opened their matches well: they both won the first set, but  finished equally badly. Nejedlý won the first set against the top seeded qualifier Miedler of Austria, but lost the third set 0:6. In the match against Miedler's compatriot Neumayer, Daniel Siniakov also lost the third set 0:6...
