UniCredit Czech Open: Three Czechs Through to the Quarterfinals!

01.06.2022 19:33:03 | Vít Kopřiva became the first quarter-finalist after beating Pablo Andujar of Spain. Shortly afterwards, Martin Krumich defeated the lucky loser Louis Wessels of Germany. The opening set was clearly controlled by the nineteen-year-old native of Cologne: he allowed Wessels only two games and literally walked over him. In the second set, however, the roles were reversed and Louis Wessels served him a bagel. Martin Krumich then raised his game in the third set and although he failed to convert two breakpoints, he won the almost fifteen-minute game at 5:4. He then succeeded on return and converted the first of his two match points.

Dalibor Svrcina started the match against Evgeniy Donsky in a great style and took an early lead at 3:0. However, he then lost focus and only won the set thanks to the break in the last thirteenth game. The Prostejov player did not do very well in the tight match but finally took the deciding set to tiebreak. It was the Czech player who rejoiced in the end. "It wasn't good, I didn't even deserve to win for how I played. It was only my persistence that got me to the next round," said Svrčina with a sigh. "After surprisingly advancing from the first round I was the favourite this time. Maybe that's why I didn't feel good. It was only in the last set that I was able to calm down a bit and focus on what was happening on the court," said Dalibor Svrčina in critical assessment of his performance.
