Qualification Sees Six Czechs, only Two of Them Advance

04.06.2023 19:25:33 | The UniCredit Czech Open 2023, the biggest Czech tournament, started on Sunday at 10 a.m. Opening matches of the first qualifying round saw six Czechs in the Moravia National Tennis Centre. After losing the first set, Michael Vrbensky's opponent Saba Purtseladze retired and sent the Czech player to the qualification final.

The home player Jan Kumstat appeared in the qualification as a wild card, but Valkusz of Hungary was too much for him and was ousted after losing 6:4 and 6:2. Another Prostejov player Jaroslav Pospíšil was defeated by Lavagna of Italy 0:6 and 2:6, and Daniel Siniakov lost to Burruchago of Argentina twice 7:5. Pavel Nejedlý was also unlucky as he was ousted by Guinard of France 3:6 and 1:6. It was only the last match that eventually cheered up the Czech crowd: Hynek Barton defeated Roc Batalla of Spain 6:4, 5:7 and 6:4.
