Vít Kopřiva Will Not Defend His Title in Prostějov

07.06.2023 10:30:40 | Last year, Vít Kopřiva reached his first final at the UniCredit Czech Open in Prostějov in which he defeated his club mate Dalibor Svrčina. Prostějov had once again a Czech champion after long five years! On Tuesday, the twenty-five-year-old TK AGROFERT player set out on his journey to defend his title, but he lost to the qualifier Maty Valkusz of Hungary in the first round and notched his fourth loss in a row. He will drop 60 places in the rankings, down to the third hundred, to the 222nd place.

What decided the match? Kopřiva was leading 3:1 in the first set, but then he lost five games in a row... In the second set, he turned it around from 2:4. The winner of the last set was decided by the endgame and the Czech lost his last two serves of the match. "The beginning of the match was not good on my part, but then my performance improved and I believed I could turn the match around. I am especially sorry about the fourth game of the third set. I made three stupid mistakes when my opponent was serving at 30:15. This game could have been a turning point in my favour," said Kopřiva sadly. "Lately, my game has been lacking the necessary ease and calmness, which then affects the final result. Hopefully it will turn around soon. Now I will take a short break and then play the Wimbledon qualifications," Kopřiva added.
